La Tomatina Tickets, Honestly Explained

One hour, 150 tonnes of tomatoes, 20,000 people - and a ticket cap that turns a street party into a booking problem. Entry to La Tomatina has been ticketed and capacity-limited since 2013, official sales open around March, and the cheap tiers go first. This site tracks that calendar honestly and lists the day trips that include entry: from Valencia (40 minutes away), Barcelona and Madrid. The featured Valencia departure runs 4.8/5 across 65 bookings.

How La Tomatina Actually Works

Four steps, the ticket cap first.

  1. Know the Cap

Participation has been capped at 20,000 since 2013 and entry is ticketed. This is not a walk-up street party any more - without a ticket you watch from outside the barriers, if at all.

  2. Watch the March Window

The town's own tickets usually go on sale in spring (around March-April) and the cheapest tiers go first. Our 2027 page tracks the announcement; the packages below hold their own allocations.

  3. Pick Your Road

Buñol sits 40 minutes from Valencia, about four hours from Barcelona and Madrid. The day trips include entry and solve a transport problem that gets ugly on festival morning.

  4. Dress for Destruction

Old clothes, closed shoes, goggles. Everything you wear will be thrown away and everything you carry will be soaked - the packing page is short and it matters.

Which Road to Buñol?

The same hour in the same square. What differs is how long you sit on a bus to reach it.

FeatureFrom Barcelona ($156)40 MINUTES AWAY From Valencia ($196)From Madrid ($156)
The roadAbout four hours each way - an overnight coach shape, leaving in the small hours and returning lateForty minutes each way. You sleep in a bed, arrive fresh and are back for a Valencia dinnerAbout four hours each way across the meseta - same overnight-coach shape as Barcelona
Proof3.8/5 across 12 bookings - a thinner, more mixed record than the Valencia departure4.8/5 across 65 bookings - the strongest record of the three, and the shortest road4.7/5 across 3 bookings - too few to lean on, though the format matches the others
Honest noteYou are paying less and travelling far more; the cheaper ticket costs you a night of sleepIf your trip can start in Valencia, this is simply the better version of the dayOnly sensible if Madrid is already your base - nobody should travel to Madrid to reach Buñol

The thing nobody tells you about the world’s biggest food fight: since 2013 it has been ticketed and capped at 20,000 people. The images of an open street free-for-all are older than the current rules. Today, Buñol’s one hour of tomato warfare - next on Wednesday 25 August 2027 - needs a ticket bought in advance, and the cheap tiers disappear months before August.

There are exactly two honest routes in. The first is the town’s own ticket, sold by the Ayuntamiento de Buñol through its official channel - basic entry was €15 in 2026, with sales opening around March; the 2027 price and on-sale date had not been published when this page was written. The second is a day trip that bundles entry with transport, which is what this site lists: from Valencia (Buñol is 40 minutes away, and this is the featured departure at 4.8/5 across 65 bookings), from Barcelona, and from Madrid. The side-by-side price breakdown shows exactly what the package premium buys - and when it is worth nothing at all.

The calendar is the whole game. Demand for this event runs January to May and collapses in July, not because interest dies but because it has sold out. If you are reading this in autumn, you are early in the best possible way: the trips take bookings now with free cancellation, and the town’s own sale is still months out. If you are reading it in August, the packages are usually the only door still open.

Then there is the practical half. Buñol’s population multiplies on festival morning, the trains are a crush, and everything you wear is destroyed - which is why the packing page is short, specific and worth two minutes: old clothes, closed shoes, goggles, and a plan for your phone.

"Brilliant day. Great experience would 100% recommend to friends and family and may bring my kids in a couple of years to experience it to. The only downside was the long walk down and back up to the coaches up the steep hillside and steps."
